Bushmills Original

Many whiskies are icons. Busmills Original is the Irish whiskey that was around my house for Irish Coffees as a child. Before I know anything about whiskey, I had learned that Bushmills was special.

I had to make sure to record these tasting notes before this bottle was depleted and evicted. This particular liter was purchased at Trader Joe's for a mere $18.99 and was featured in the "Lazy Irish Coffee".

Bushmills, like many Irish whiskeys is triple distilled and therefore very smooth. It's also a blend of single malt and grain whiskey bringing balance.

It has a strong malty oak nose, sweet and smooth, hints of honey, light vanilla, soft fruitiness, finish of something spicy like pine  and the slightest burn going down. A touch of water does open this whiskey up and makes the sweeter flavors more prevalent.

Bushmills is smoother and more complicated than many whiskeys, and it is one of the benchmarks for qulaity and consistancy. I give it a solid 5.
